If you haven't already installed Tight VNC Server on your Raspberry Pi 3 then head here and see the first section about installation - its very easy and quick to do!
Right, so assuming we have Tight VNC server up and running our Raspberry Pi 3, how do we connect from an Android device? This again is very easy to do, we need to download just one app.
Sever running?
If like me you have turned off your Raspberry Pi 3 since installing Tight VNC Server then you will need to start the program again, in the terminal type
tightvncserver
This will start the server so we can connect to it!
OK, back to your Android device.
Download VNC Viewer
Once you have downloaded and installed the program open it up and you will be presented with something similar to the screenshot below. We can see we have no connections, to add a new connection touch the white plus sign in the green circle bottom right.
Enter Connection Details
We will be asked to fill in details of the connection we are going to setup, enter the details from the set-up of Tight VNC Server on your Raspberry Pi 3 and choose a name for your connection. In this case it is my Raspberry Pi 3`s IP address followed by :1 and I have named the connection Aquaponicpi.
Connect!
Once you have entered the details for your new connection, click create. You will be shown an overview of the connection you have just created.
Touch the connect button! You will be warned that the connection is unencrypted, touch OK to continue.
You will be then asked to enter the password you chose when you ran Tight VNC Server on your Raspberry Pi 3 for the first time, here I have also chosen to remember the password. Enter your details and touch CONTINUE.
Connected!
There we go! We are now connected to the Raspberry Pi 3 desktop, VNC viewer will give you a quick guide to using the software if it is the first connection you have made.
There we go fully working desktop via your Android device!
See how easy was that?! That is all for the different connections to the Raspberry Pi 3 for now. In previous posts we have set up SSH from our Windows machine, along with the ability to view the Desktop Graphical user interface and now both of the above for an Android device also!
This completes the first part of the Road Map! Thanks for reading!
